I began searching online for a great multivitamin. I began receiving several emails about the GBG business opportunity and one of their flagship products – the GBG 10-in-One Multi Vitamin. When things relating to health and business come across my desk, I immediately start looking for what I call “Scam Flags.”

Immediately, as I started looking for “Scam Flags,” I discovered some bad things about GBG.

So, What are “SCAM FLAGS?”

Products that promise to be “THE NEXT BEST THING.” We all know discoveries in the science and health care industry vary as often as the weather. The next big ingredient, or product, is tomorrow’s big risk and is no longer good for you! In fact, sometimes it turns out to be harmful to you. Unless a product is truly unique, shortly after it’s usually replaced with the newest and greatest modification. Come on, we see it with everything – from toothpaste to electronics. There’s always the next best thing coming out.
Products that claim to have a “MIRACLE INGREDIENT.” I’m so tired of hearing people tell me I need a product because it will perform all these health-related miracles! I took classes on nutrition as well as studied it on my own, and anyone who knows a little bit about nutrients and how the body works knows that there is not one single vitamin, mineral, or ingredient that keeps the human body running.Our ability to prolong and maintain good health depends on so many different “things” working together to keep our bodies functioning. And in the case of vitamins and minerals, many vitamins and minerals complement each other and need a proper balance in order for our bodies to maximize their miraculous properties.
Products that claim that “WE HAVE THE ONLY PRODUCT LIKE THIS.” Rarely do you find a 100% unique product that doesn’t have a generic or similar counterpart to it. The amounts of nutritional value, specific ingredients, etc. may vary, but for the most part you can usually find something similar to the “hottest new thing” whether it’s cheaper or more expensive.

Who doesn’t Love All-In-One Products? I love products that combine lots of ingredients together to make one simple final product. Usually the problem with all-in-one products is, unless the company that’s making the all-in-one product is following a specific recipe or measuring guidelines, you never truly know what you are getting and in what amount. This is called, in the world of supplements, a proprietary blend. Goji Berry: Another potent antioxidant. I’m not too familiar with it though. It amazes me how much antioxidant power some of these fruits have! If I was to walk past a Goji berry on a stroll I would think nothing much of it – it looks a lot like any regular berry that you would expect only birds and bears would want to snack on.
Resveratrol: (UPDATE 2011) GBG has added one of (if not THE) most powerful antioxidant, to the ENHANCED GBG Chewables. POSSIBLE GBG SCAM FLAG #1: GBG says that the 10-IN-ONE formula is chock full of ingredients. Saying that it has just about everything your body needs in one bottle. That drew my attention first. This definitely looks like a scam. My first question was “Can this even be safe?”

I did an in-depth personal line by line review of the 2008 10-in-1 ingredients listed on the GBG supplement facts sheet that appeared in the 2008 Physician’s Desk Reference. To sum up what I learned I’d say that it appears that NONE of the vitamins in 10-in-1 exceed the Upper Intake Levels (the max amount of vitamins you should consume).

UPDATE: There is now a 2010 PDR Update. As far as safe goes – I’m not a Dr. or Nutritionist and if you have any real concerns about taking the product, I highly suggest you go over it with a professional.

2. Business Opportunities that claim to “MAKE YOU RICH.”I’m so tired of seeing ads both online and offline as well as having people contacting me and telling me that their company or opportunity can make me a millionaire or that it has the BEST Compensation Plan or Pay Plan! I mean, granted, I haven’t been around the home based business industry as long as some, and I definitely don’t have any experience running a traditional offline business, but I do know a little bit about making money with a business and I know there’s no such thing as a get rich quick or overnight millionaire deal. Not to mention I’ve taken a few classes on business a few years ago and I know that any REAL business requires a REAL effort.

3. Business Opportunities that claim that “WE HAVE THEONLY OPPORTUNITY OR PRODUCT LIKE THIS.” Rarely do you find a 100% unique opportunity that doesn’t have similar competition. Take for example the fact that Walmart was “the first” big all-in-one super store (now even with a grocery store, nail salon, and more in it), and now other stores like Target are following in their footsteps. That goes to show that basically no business model is fool-proof to being copied or duplicated. While you may get a jump on the competition, eventually they’ll get the idea and follow suit.

1. Wouldn’t you LOVE the Opportunity to make more money? Honestly, who wouldn’t?! (Even Donald Trump looks for ways to make more money, and let’s face it, he really doesn’t need it.) I mean, I don’t think I have to explain this one too much (smile)! Take a look at the economy and living situation around us! The standard of living as most of us have known it is barreling, millions are out of jobs, millions are losing their homes, people are losing their retirement and other investments, and more and more are applying for financial assistance programs… and, sadly, the list goes on. We are in an era where financial help couldn’t come at a better time.

2. Wouldn’t you LOVE to be your own boss? Who wouldn’t?! I don’t know about you, but I personally have wanted to be my own boss since I was a child. I hated the idea of having to work for someone else and have rebelled against it as much as I could! I have worked a real job, but I didn’t like it (well, I didn’t like certain aspects of it). As a kid I used to do things like sell candy, baby-sit, and much more to make money at a very young age… and my entrepreneurial spirit has neverdied! If you’ve listened to any of the Business Opportunity calls done by most companies, most of them are fueled by hype. I mean, hype is a good thing sometimes, but when it comes to something I am investing in, I want to hear the good and the bad – what the realistic expectations are – BEFORE I write a check or submit my debit card information. So I understand the need to check something out completely BEFORE making a sound decision!

I want to point out that the first thing I did when evaluating GBG as a possible scam was to research 4 of the most popular consumer scam complaint reporting agencies. There were ONLY TWO issues reported against the GBG company since they’ve launched as a Health and Wellness company 2 years ago. These are the negative discoveries that I have made about GBG:

It’s too INexpensive to get started – You are in business when you purchase ANY GBG product…the business comes with the product purchase for FREE*! The low price of the product has it’s perks in this tough economy, it also has a downside to it. Because you are not chucking out the average investment cost of a few hundred or even a few thousand dollars it usually takes to start a business, some people may not take the business seriously. However, this low start-up cost can also actually be a good thing because the risk is low! People will join because they want to get healthy first, and then build a business because they love the product. Then they invest any funds they have into other key areas such as marketing and training.
